Mario Miranda, born in 1926 in Goa, was a legendary artist and cartoonist celebrated for finding humor in the everyday. His iconic drawings captured the essence of bustling streets, lively gatherings, and his travels across the world; from Paris to New York, Macau to Japan. Invited by cultural institutions and airlines alike, Mario’s pen turned ordinary scenes into vivid stories filled with wit and character. Over his lifetime, he created unforgettable cartoons for newspapers, advertisements, and exhibitions, leaving behind a body of work that feels like a travel diary of his observations. Posthumously awarded the Padma Vibhushan, India’s second-highest civilian honor, Mario’s art continues to inspire, amuse, and document the world as he saw it.

One of the core reasons Jigsaw Nation was born was to bring Indian stories into the puzzling world. While puzzles across the globe often highlight landmarks and cultures of different countries, we noticed India was missing from the picture. The Artist Series is our way of changing that. We collaborate with talented Indian artists; from legendary caricaturists like Mario Miranda to contemporary illustrators like Chaaya Prabhat, and transform their stunning creations into puzzles worth treasuring. Every puzzle is a slice of India’s artistic spirit, waiting to be solved, displayed, and admired.
